| All companies around the world have to be constantly updated of the latest technologies that could improve their system, increase income and consequently lower overhead cost. Technology is supposed to make work less complicated and drive down cost. Cloud computing, though it looks foreign to me, seems like a good idea because you get to do things to enhance your business system without installing anything in your computer. As they say, everything is in the clouds. |
| I am just so impressed with the great development of technology these days. In fact, there are already a lot of new inventions which apparently help us work conveniently. I am not too familiar how cloud computing works so I would appreciate if anybody can share how it works as software. How does it make technology more effective? I hope it will also as affordable as other software I use. |

| Cloud computing means storing stuff in the servers on the internet.Currently there are online companies that offer back-up services. This means that you can simply download their program, and they'll automatically backup all your files periodically. So if your computer dies or gets infected with a virus or something, you can get back your old files online from the back-up company.Of course, you have to pay a fee for this service. |

I sell cloud based software for the limo industry but I use to do sales for a large locksmith in Dallas. The cloud means that your customer information stays on a server in a data center some where. You can access it with a user name and password ANYTIME, ANYWHERE using ANY DEVICE. You won't have to worry about licenses, PCI compliance, viruses, firewalls or hardware failures because its not your problem....its your service provider's problem. Here's what the cloud means for the locksmith industry: Your sales / dispatch agent gets a call and quotes a price. Assuming that you have dealt with the customer before then all of their data will come up automatically. In about 2 minutes, the agent can charge a credit card, email a receipt and dispatch the job to your rolling locksmith's cell phone via text message or email. If your trucks have smart phones, tablets or i-pads then the driver can charge the credit card and get a signature from the customer using the touch screen. The main reason why locksmith's are going to need to be in the cloud is because of the integration with tablets and I-pads which are going to become invaluable to you in the coming years. Traditional programs that you can buy and run on your home computer will not be able to integrate with these tablet devices. Great question Jerry - that's why you run back ups LOCALLY. If your software is *NOT* in the cloud and you catch a virus, get hacked, get robbed, house burns down etc your in the same boat. Good software's (both traditional and cloud based) will have some sort of export tool that will allow you to export your accounts into an excel spread sheet. |
